1965-1969 High school. During the high school he made his own chemical, mechanical and biological laboratory. In that laboratory he performed operations with collaborators (pupils he animated), on frog's and dog's hearth (He made necessary surgical instruments by himself). Also he made very successfully flying models of airplanes and rockets. He also has been member of athletic club and musical orchestra.
1969 - 1974 Medical faculty, University of Belgrade. Parallel with Medicine he received Technical education on the Mechanical faculty, but he didn't finished Mechanical faculty.

1975 M. D. (Faculty of Medicine University Belgrade)
1982-1984 Musters degree (Mr. sci. multidisciplinary, Belgrade). He finished 2 years postgraduated studies in Multidisciplinary center and defended the thesis under the title: "THE IMPORTANCE OF EXTERNAL SKELETAL FIXATION IN PROVIDING OPTIMAL BIOMECHANICAL CONDITIONS IN THE FRACTURE HEALING". In this thesis he measured the biomechanical features of the long bones and mechanical characteristics of the connection pins/wires-bone. He developed new convergent external fixation device, which has been in routine use later. It has been his first patent.
1984-1987 Doctoral disertation (Dr. sci. med. - Ph.D.). The title of his Ph.D. was: "IMPORTANCE OF EARLY APPLICATION OF EXTERNAL FIXATOR IN TRAUMATOLOGY OF LOCOMOTION APPARATUS". He investigated different original ideas of fracture fixation in different phases of fracture healing. As one of the results of this thesis has been new original concept of external fixation which is in routine use in different countries (13 thousand applications so far). |

He has been awarded with several national and international rewards for inventions and introducing of new concepts in orthopaedic surgery. Some of these are: 1st prize (gold medal) on the world inventions exhibition in Brussels, 1st Prize "Nikola Tesla" (gold medal) 1996, 1st Prize "Mihajlo Pupun" (gold medal) 1994, 1st prize in former Yugoslavia for invention (1989), Big gold medal from the Riga's Traumatology institute and from Prof. Kalnberzs (member of the Russian Academy of Science), different national rewords for achievements on the National and international level, for improvements and rationalization of fracture treatment etc. |

He is author of 43 patents.
Original external fixator, "Mitkovic" type is in wide use in many universities clinics and Traumatology centers in different countries. More then 15 thousand patients have been treated by the "Mitkovic" type external fixators. New original internal fixator has opened new field in biological minimally invasive internal fixation. It is regularly organized courses of original methods of external and internal fixation and closed fracture reduction, for orthopaedic surgeons and traumatologists, leaded by the author's team. |

He has published 375 papers and eight books. The main are: 1. "EXTERNAL FIXATION IN TRAUMATOLOGY - development and application of the author's apparatuses" and 2. "NEW CONCEPTS IN EXTERNAL FIXATION". During the past 15 years he has been the leather in 10 scientific projects and 42 patents are the results of these researches. He also has very dynamic activities on the Medical faculty coordinating at the same time several researches as a mentor for different doctoral dissertations, Master's theses and other scientific works. |
